Roy Keane slams Ashley Young for `conning` ref in Man U’s draw with Real Sociedad
London – Former Irish footballer Roy Keane has reportedly accused Manchester United winger Ashley Young of ‘conning’ the referee during United’s Champions League 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad with a controversial dive.
Young went down to the ground in a theatrical move during the Tuesday game in San Sebastian, winning a penalty which Robin van Persie struck against a post.
However, the Mirror reports that replays of the incident showed Young making the most of minimal contact, following which Keane castigated him with cheating the referee, saying that Young had obviously played for that move and had only been let go as the rules in a foreign country are much more relaxed than England.
Although Moyes had warned Young earlier on diving, the Scot, however defended his player, saying that the referee made the decisions and was the one who saw fit to award a penalty and send a player off, adding that it was the referee’s choice to award Young a penalty.
United’s goalless draw has thrown Group A wide open, with Moyes’s men in a three-way tussle with Bayer Leverkusen and Shakhtar Donetsk to secure a place in the knockout stage, the report added.
