New Delhi – Contemporary issues like safety of women and the indifferent attitude of mankind towards nature have found place in artist Aparna Banerjee’s exhibition at Lalit Kala Academy here till Nov 8.

The exhibition titled “Romancing Vagaries” is a collection of over 40 works that have used the medium of acrylic on canvas. The abstract works of art are influenced by European and ancient Indian art.

“Women are sensual, intelligent, honest and strong, yet they are vulnerable to attacks and are bound by many restrictions. To me, she is a perfect muse to paint,” Banerjee told IANS post the launch of the exhibition Friday.

“Similarly, nature too is in danger considering the way we are adapting to urbanisation. I have used a lot of red in my paintings to show how they are bleeding and in pain,” she added.

Delhi-based Banerjee has been painting since childhood and has many solo exhibitions to her credit. Her medium has always been abstract.

“I don’t see things in detail or reality. So the reference of things comes out through my works where I allow my imagination to do the talking and make my paintings open to all sorts of interpretation,” she said.
