Surat sexual assault case: Asaram Bapu’s judicial custody extended by four days
Gandhinagar – Asaram Bapu’s judicial custody was extended to October 19 in connection with the Surat rape case, which is the second case of its kind against the self-styled godman.
A day after he was questioned by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad in Ahmedabad, Asaram was produced before a special judge here in connection with the sexual assault case levelled against him.
The sexual assault case was lodged by two Surat-based sisters-one against Asaram and the second against his son Narayan Sai.
According to a television channel report, the incident took place in Asaram’s ashram in Ahmedabad, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Chandkheda police station.
The elder of the two sisters has accused Asaram Bapu of sexually assaulting her between 1997 and 2006 at his ashram, while the younger sister has filed a complaint against Sai, accusing him of repeated sexual assaults between 2002 and 2005 at the Surat ashram.
Narayan Sai, who is absconding, and his father have filed petitions before the Gujarat High Court seeking a quashing of sexual assault complaints against them. Sai has also filed for anticipatory bail in a court in Surat.
